Boyup Brook Short Story Competition
The Boyup Brook Short Story Competition was organised by the local Tourism Association and run in conjunction with the Boyup Brook Book Bonanza, which was a weekend of books, authors, writing, sales and workshops. It ran for two years, but then collapsed in a heap as some members of the committee left the town, and we didn’t make any money, so couldn’t continue to run it. We decided to hold a story competition to increase interest in the weekend. The theme of the story had to include Blue Gum trees, since a lot of our farming land has been sold or leased to tree companies to grow Blue Gums for profit/chips. We ended up with five adult entries and one child, and were successful in gaining a little finance from one or two of the tree companies to cover the prize money. The judge was a local retired English teacher here in the district, who now runs a winery and B & B. |
