Blackened Billy Verse Competition
The Blackened Billy Verse Competition is organised by the Tamworth Poetry Reading Group. It began in 1991 as an attempt to revive the old bush verse tradition of yesteryear, and has since grown to be regarded as one of the most prestigious bush poetry competitions in Australia. Modern bush poetry, which must be written in the traditional ‘rhyme and rhythm’ style, reflects the vast array of aspects that make up the Australian way of life. |
