Australian Horror Writers Association Flash and Short Story Competition

The Australian Horror Writers Association (AHWA) Flash and Short Story Competition started in 2005 and now runs every year. It is open to unpublished stories only. We’re looking for well-written tales, ones that make the judges think and give them goosebumps. We dare you to scare the judges – and no, that doesn’t mean gross them out. There are two categories; Flash Fiction (<1,000 words) and Short Story (1,001 to 8,000 words), with the winner of each category receiving paid publication. Previously this has been in Shadowed Realms and Dark Animus respectively, but from 2009 onwards the winners will be published in Midnight Echo, the official magazine of the AHWA.
