Kalileh and Demneh was written in India around 280 CE. It is a ‘guidebook’ for prospective kings, and as such was read only by princes.
Folklore explains how this book was smuggled from the treasury of the Indian king to Persia during the reign of Persian emperor Khusro Anoosheervan (531–79 CE).
